Everyone wants more traffic to your website right? Today I am talking about traffic. The digital visitor kind.  Traffic and number of visitors to your online store or website.  How to get more of it, what some tactics are to generate interest and bring more people onto your site.  That old saying of build it and they will come.  Well, not so much.  The competition is strong but if you employ some of the things, I will talk about in here then traffic can certainly go up!

When conversion is sitting around 2-4% for ecommerce you can see why you need to constantly have more traffic and new traffic for you to be able to actual convert some of those into sales.

You cannot expect every person landing on your website to purchase.

Now I went through in podcast no. 2 how to make sure your website and online presence is strong, and I also dive much deeper into this in my 5 day increase your website sales mini course too if you want extra info.

But today is something that a lot of my clients and members in thelotco collective ask about a lot and I wanted to give an overview of ways that can and help you increase number actually finding you in the first place.

Right so getting more traffic to your website.

I am going to run through 15 things here to help you generate more people finding you , buying form you and being made aware of your brand also!

1.     Tell more people about it!!

Seems obvious right but you’d be surprised.

If you have a bricks and mortar store share it on:

the base of your receipt,

show the address at your counter,

display on your window or in store signage.

Do you have an Online store only- that’s ok.

Talk about it on your Socials. Mention it in your captions. Link to it on facebook or in your instagram bio.

Include multiple links in your bio with a milkshake or linktree options.

Have links to shop from Facebook.  Use the button to send customers directly to your home page.

Include shop features on products on facebook and instagram.

 2.     Write blog posts on your own site about popular products.

Include links to products within your own website and where relevant or possible external links to reference other sites.  This is really important to make sure you add links to increase ranking power SEO (search engine optimisation- I go through this further below) and really help your customers get to know more about you, your product, your values, your stockists, suppliers and more!

Fo example my client Karina Jambrak has a collaboration going with Adairs so she wrote a blog post all about it and made sure she included links back to her own product and also links to the Adairs website.  This shows offer her range, her ability to attract high profile collaborations and her art on various products also!.

 3. Use Pinterest

Pin everything from Instagram and everything from your website onto Pinterest. Pin videos, pin reels, pin blog posts, pin products, pin it all. And make sure the images you pin are named correctly (image title) and have the appropriate keywords included in the description as Pinterest is a very valuable search engine! I promise you this will bring more traffic to your website!

Get active on it. Promote it. Track what is popular organically or gets good reach and engagement and spend money to generate more traffic this way too!! The growth in pinterest can be slower but once it hits its stride can be exponential! Pinterest works particularly well for those with products that do not change seasonally as if the images are rich in keywords and pinterest promotes them they can be found for years to come!

4.    Engagement is a big one.

How others find out about you. Comment on socials, get active in Facebook groups, be helpful and authentic.  Follow others.  Be active. (make sure you if you use facebook your personal facebook profile has your website listed so those who click through can find you!!)

 5.    Collaborate with others to capture some of their audience.

Run giveaways, sharing others posts on your stories, creating products with other brands or artists.  One of my clients Marlo and Co has a gorgeous outdoor cushion range but uses amazing up and coming artists for the designs.  Work on reels together. Have a facebook live with your supplier or stockist!

 6.    Reach out for Editorial and send PR to magazines or relevant blogs.

I always visit stores after finding them in a magazine or seeing them on another blog. Use current magazine as inspiration and how they write up new product features. Not sure how to go about this? Hire a PR company if you want to get really serious!

7.    Can you write blog posts or stories for others.

If this is in your wheelhouse of skills use it!!!  One of my clients is a former magazine editor and now has her own product.  So, we talked about her writing for other blogs as a guest feature writer.  Others are always looking for content too.  Help them. Check out gotobedthelabel.com

 8.    Community activity.

If you have a bricks and mortar store are there any have street events. Or join with other businesses to have a workshop or pop up inside.  One of my NZ clients (fashion boutique) had a brow expert come into store and her customers could book in a time– I loved this and so did her customers!!

 9.    SEO (search engine optimisation).

When you are working on your SEO (and you should always be) make sure you use language that your customer does. They are not searching for a rose they are searching for pink. They are not searching for specific industry terms they are using generic language so make sure this is included in your descriptions and all the places SEO counts on your website. Product descriptions should have short keywords and blog posts should have both short and long tail keywords.

Long tail keywords are 4-5-word search terms. Kate Toon has amazing detail on how to improve your website SEO.

A few weeks ago I had seen a gorgeous dress on instagram but then wanted to find it again. I did not know the brand, I did not know the actual style name I just searched fo the generic description of it. It was a pink linen maxi dress. This is the term I put into google. Not rose quartz Sarah dress (which may have been the designers name for it). SO go ahead and name your designs but also include what it actually is in descriptions and alt text also.

 10. Build a database collect emails and use them!!!

Sending regular emails (edm’s) is a guarantee if getting more traffic to your website.

Send special offers to your VIP’s only.   Stay in touch regularly by providing value, information, entertainment and offers occasionally too. I have a while other podcast on this you can check that here!!

I use flodesk for my email system. This is a great starter for ecommerce stores and is a really affordable option. You can get it for $19 usd a month which I believe is money very well invested to generate more sales!

11.  Use Influencers.

Get others to talk about you! Utilise all your reviews and also ask for UGC (user generated content) from your customers.

Encourage customer to tag you (ask them on your packaging or in your thank you card).  Create an unboxing experience they will want to share. Offer a giveaway for those who share.

Unboxing is a big deal.  Rachel Castle from Castle and things has a cute and creative packaging that is not super expensive. Check it out..

 12. Ask others to be a blog guest or feature others so then they’ll share it with their audience.

Feature your brands you carry in store.  Share their story.  Or share your stockists and feature them and what else they carry. Example is a AQOF website, Kylie is a former client also!

 13. Use Video content on your socials, blogs, products.

Either instructional or entertainment depending upon your product.

How to tie a baby headband example is from one of my clients  Avani and Co.  https://avaniandco.com/. How to use a klipsta hat clip (again I love spruiking my clients!). Or how to style bedroom like  https://www.gotobedthelabel.com/

14. Create content with other brands and products.

When I had my store, I always created flat lays and styled shots in store with other brands that I sold but then I made sure I  tagged them, and they would often share too.  I ran the Marmoset Found Instagram for years and would always re-share the stores imagery (especially if it was stunning like so many were!).

 15. Use paid advertising.

It works.  Either DIY, do a course or get someone to do it for you.  Well worth the investment and planning!  Whether facebook ads, instagram ads, pinterest or google ads. Bianca Mckenzie has a great course you could take.

Track what is working, review your analytics and go harder on the ones that work and bring you traffic. You can see where traffic is coming from and what is sending people your way.  Double down on those that seem to be helping!!!

I have all this listed out in a little checklist for to download here to make life easier!!

And if you want guidance and help to grow your ecommerce business or retail store then make sure you get in touch and join in one of my supportive groups or courses. You can find out more right here
